About us

The Mityana Community Foundation is a registered UK Charity (N o. 1118765) and is subject to the governance of and inspection by the UK Charity Commission. Mityana is a District in the Central region of Uganda with a population of around 350,000.

Our objective is to support the people as they develop into a safe, secure and sustainable community responding positively to community determined needs. We have incorporated a variety of projects within our programme, including fire safety, equipping and training the local police to fight fires, road safety and issues such as environmental health, disaster preparedness, good governance and wider capacity building. We work closely with the elected leaders to encourage a wide programme of sustainable development.

The current trustees are drawn from a wide section of the UK community and bring important skills and experience - from Project Management, Trade Union Leadership, International Development, Fire and Rescue operations, Organisational Change and Civil Society work.

Volunteers who travel with us to Mityana are likely to be working with children and/or vulnerable adults so we require everyone to have satisfactorily completed a Criminal Records Bureau check; we also maintain diversity and health and safety policies.

WE then use our experience in Uganda to educate children in the UK in wider cultural, development and international issues.
